Restaurant numero deux of the three I visited for #MasterCardRestaurantWeek was Craft Gourmet by Lou Baker, read below for my experience.

As I mentioned in the review for 355 RestaurantLost In Lagos partnered with Mastercard for #MasterCardRestaurantWeek and I found the time to squeeze 3 restaurants to sample over the span of 2 weeks so here is the breakdown of the second one I visited (also my first visit).

Craft Gourmet by Lou Baker

|Mega Plaza Mall, 14 Idowu Martins Street, Victoria Island, Lagos | Phone: 0703 265 2069

Reception –

My breathe was absolutely taken away when I walked in here, but it took walking much further into the restaurant to flag a wait staff before I could be seated. Not very attentive…

Ambiance –

This restaurant is hands down one of the best designed restaurants that I have been to in Nigeria. Hands down. I went in for lunch, and they seem to have a healthy number of lunch crowd that eat here. I also loved how there was no blaring music trying to burst my eardrums. The space itself is so comfortable that if I was up for wasting money, I’d come by there to work and snack…but good thing I have an office space eh?

Customer Service –

There really isn’t much that I can say regarding their customer service. It was not spectacular, nor were they attentive. The waiter pretty much forgot I was there. I ended up flagging another waiter for the bill, I later found out that my waiter had gone for lunch…he should have passed the job on to his colleague. Serious joker.

Food – it took 40+ minutes for the first plate to show up

I started to eye my neighbor’s plate of food at some point. Please feed me!

Starter – Spicy hummus with crostinis

The crostini and the hummus were good, but the pita bread that came with it should be pulverized asap. Terrible flavor and very wrong texture. The hummus was great and the olive oil used for it really sang through. Really good quality of oil was used in making the hummus, and it showed. Too bad that the bread in partner was a failure. The serving size was also pretty good, and it was surprisingly a better serving size than the actual main course. Odd.

Main course – Slow cooked Beef Shawarma

When this course came out, I was too hungry to care. He brought the wrong food, it was terrible and that was that. What came out was a plate of rice with some weird tangy spiced beef that tasted really unbalanced. Something was missing in the flavor, but I was too busy wolfing the food down to contemplate what it was. I don’t even think I bothered to let the waiter know that the dish was not what I ordered. The hunger was real.

Dessert – Cheesecake

This cheesecake…I still laugh at the memory of it! They served a cheesecask that was about the same width of the knife it came with! Tears! #BuhariTimes mehn.

It had zero taste nor consistency of an actual cheesecake, just some no flavor geleed cream mix served on a very well done and tasty base. Good base, terrible cake.
