Since the implementation of BVN and NIN in Nigeria, pretty much every documentation requires either one or both numbers to get anything processed in the country. Need to renew your Nigerian passport? No NIN, no passport. Need to open a Nigerian bank account? Then you better have your BVN and NIN at the ready. For Nigerians outside the country, obtaining a BVN and NIN abroad is imperative for passport renewals, running a business in the country, opening a bank account, paying taxes, etc.

How Nigerians Can Get Their BVN Abroad
A Bank Verification Number (BVN) is a number given to a person to open and utilize a bank account in Nigeria. If you encounter difficulties with the information below, click here to visit the NIBSS website to check for updates on the steps.
Where to Get Your BVN Abroad
There are currently 2 companies accredited to enroll Nigerians abroad to obtain their BVN; Online Integrated Solutions (OIS) and VFS Global.
Documents Needed to Get Your BVN Abroad
What you will need for your BVN enrollment:
- Valid ID (any of the following):
- Nigerian International Passport
- Nigerian National ID Card
- Nigerian Drivers License
- International Passport (for Non-Nigerians)
- One recent passport photograph (see here for passport photograph guidelines)
- A BVN Enrollment form will be provided by Online Integrated Solutions (OIS) and VFS Global.
- Enrollment fee or evidence of payment
How Nigerians Can Get Their NIN Abroad
The National Identification Number (NIN) is a pre-requisite for government & social services. If you already have a BVN and a Nigerian bank account, a vast number of Nigerians were automatically enrolled and already have the NIN. Check with your bank to confirm if you already have the number. If you do, you still need to have and it entitles a holder to be eligible for the following:
- The issuance and renewal of the Nigerian international passport
- The registration as a voter and exercise of voting rights during Nigeria’s elections
- Opening, activation, and operation of a Nigerian bank account
- Access to consular services in all Nigerian Embassies and Missions abroad
Where to Get Your NIN Abroad
According to the National Identity Management Commission, the government entity that manages the NIN program, the companies listed below are licensed to help Nigerians abroad receive their National Identification Numbers (NIN). I tested all the links below and some are expired sites, broken site links, or no information regarding NIN enrollment, or are non-functioning. The ones tested and led to NIN enrollment access as of July 2024 are bolded, feel free to test the other ones if the bolded ones don’t work, and let me know in the comments section if the unbolded ones work for you.
