Last weekend was a dream come true. My birthday was on July 16th, and as a half Ijebu woman, nothing delights me more than getting the chance to enjoy life while paying almost nothing for it…hmmm, I guess that applies to many other people in general. Who doesn’t like awoof?
My birthday jollification started with attending Spronk’s Wines of South Africa’s Wine Tasting Event on Friday…fantastic wine and really, really, good food for FREE while mingling with new and old friends is my kind of a good ol’ time.
The celebration continued when I had friends over for some home cooked meal and cocktails, Ijebu style. Last year, I got all fancy and had it catered, but recession has hit human pikin.
So yeah, I rolled up my sleeves up and made some comfort food; beef lasagna, jollof rice, coconut cream potatoes, barbecue chicken, carrot marbled cheese cake, and a big jug of very strong long island tea. Once in a while, the pleasure of hosting good people who enjoy my cooking and company is gift enough for me, once in a while. The food finished like joke like joke!
Then on Sunday, Eat Drink Lagos Festival pretty much shut down Kingsway road with an overwhelming number of young’uns looking to try out some of the good food offered by many restaurants and private chefs. The festival was a bit overwhelming, last year’s December festival was packed, I thought. Last weekend’s own took it to another level…despite getting a much larger space at Fantasy Island and a lot more vendors, the food was still not enough and the foot traffic was a dream come true for many of the vendors.
I don’t think the folks from #EatDrinkFestival ever experred it. The queue at each vendor was odikwa long. Food was selling out faster than the vendors could produce. I wish I was able to try out a bit of servings from all of the vendors, but the crowd defeated me 🙁
Note to self, get to #EatDrinkFestival before the crowd next time.
