The idea of flying within Nigeria always fills me with great trepidation. I had only ever flown to Asaba, Delta prior to this flight, so I was a bit nervous. Before flying on Air Peace to Enugu, I’d never heard of the airline before – the trip was organized by a very reliable friend that travels a lot within Nigeria, so I figured the airline would not make me lament.

My Experience

Check In –

The process was so – so, we were a group of seven, so we were allowed to check in together. The check-in area was a bit tight, there was a bit of pushing by those on our sides getting checked in also. It was a 24 hr trip, so we all packed light – no need to check in our bags.

I noticed that those with checked in bags had to do a final confirmation by the steps plane steps before boarding.

Check your bags before boarding... Or it might get left behind?
Check your bags before boarding…or it might get left behind? Notice the ugochuckwu beneath the plane’s window. I saw igbo names on other air peace planes, that is pretty awesome. #igbolove

Boarding Process –

After the usual security screening, we got searched again before boarding the plane. I was bummed that we had to trash the cup of coffee we bought in the airport – it was terrible coffee, but it was better than the hunger that was catching me.

The lady searching me told me it was against security protocol that I was taking pictures of the plane…please tell me which rule book that one came from? With gumption, I asked her if there was really such rule, I was told they could bar me from flying if I kept asking stupid questions. I vexed and kept quiet. Only in Naija. #sideEye

In Flight Experience –

I got a window seat! #winning! It was a pretty short and smooth flight in less than 2 hours. Oh, and they serve better snacks on Air Peace economy than on any other American economy airline I’ve flown within the past 20 years. I’ve since found that Nigerian airlines have better snack offerings than America does…even most European airlines sef.

Snack time! The donut was hard, but good effort!

The service in flight was better than I expected…sorry Nigeria, I always expect the worst when it comes to customer service here. It’s better to head in expecting the worst and leaving with better than average results abi?

Check Out –

We flew with our hand luggage, so I really can not say how speedy it is to retrieve checked in luggage. The airport in Enugu was also better looking than expectations. Like the airport in Asaba, it is semi new and had working A/C units (this was really the most important bit, the working A/Cs). We bought some snacks at the grocery store in the airport…I saw an arm candy, and then we drove off to Abia.
