As Nigerians, we get very few travel perks. Thankfully, traveling to Benin Republic without going through the struggle of jumping through visa hoops is one of them. Visa-free travel is visiting a country without completing lengthy visa procedures. This happens when the countries sign an agreement to that effect, or if the receiving country unilaterally opened its borders.
Nigeria is one of the fifteen (15) countries that signed the ECOWAS treaty on 28 May, 1975. The other countries are Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania (left 2002), Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Burkina Faso.
Citizens of ECOWAS countries are permitted free movement within the other member countries and do not require a visa for entry. However, you must possess a valid passport of your citizenship, the ECOWAS passport. or the ECOWAS Travel Certificate
Benin Republic tourist visa is not required for citizens of Nigeria for a stay of up to 90 days.
