Travel Video
With over 90 Things to do in Cape Town for less than N40,000 in 5 days, read this or watch the video guide for the best way to see Cape Town on a budget.
Last year, I visited Cape Town for a friend’s birthday/girls trip and I decided to head there before they all flew in to do my own thing without any interruptions. Two days into my holiday of sleeping and eating fest, I decided to explore the city in the most relaxed way I could think of. I walked about 5 minutes from my really central hostel to the the City Sightseeing Cape Town office and randomly met a Nigerian (we are everywhere :)) working at the office, Kevin. It was kismet and speaking with him made me even more excited about jumping on the adventure. I got a pass that allowed for over 90 Things to do in Cape Town for less than $100 and I figured others will be interested to get in on the deal.
Regular Unlimited Pass
For the best way to see Cape Town on a budget, get the “Unlimited City Pass: Bus + any of 80 attractions” package. I spent 2 days living my best life with the pass and I wish I had a friend with me for this amazing experience. The next time I visit Cape Town, I’m dragging a friend along because the value of this pass is straight up ridiculously good and something I will definitely advise everyone to do this if you are keen on experiencing so much for as little as possible. I got the 2 day pass and for the number of activities offered on the list, I should have gone for the 3 day pass instead. Anyway, the current price is in the image above and I will definitely advice travelers looking to soak in as much experience as possible to get either of the ones here.
Single Day Pass (The City Explorer Pass)
For travelers with just 1 day available to be all touristy, check out the explorer pass below…you could probably squeeze in 3 – 12 activities if you plan it well. Click here to get yours.
1 Premium Activity + Regular Unlimited Pass
Cape Town has a wide range of outdoor activities to do like paragliding over the city, white shark tour, helicopter ride and so many more. Those activities can be quite pricey and there is also an option to purchase an unlimited pass that gives access to 1 premium activity at a sweet deal. Click here to get yours.
Quick Tips to note
- If the weather is on your side, grab a seat at the top rear area; you will get a gorgeous almost 360 degree view of the city.
- Also pack a hat that can withstand heavy wind and a pair of sunglasses to keep you comfortable up there…and a jacket in case you get a bit chilly.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes
- The drives can be a bit long, take a book with you or have a fun music playlist to keep you entertained while on the bus – you get a pair of earphones to listen to a pre-recorded audio guide.
- Pack a power bank! The buses I rode on came equipped with charging stations, but it never hurts to come extra prepared just in case.
Altogether, from wine tasting at Groot Constantia to sipping wine on a boat as the sun set over Cape Town, I was pretty impressed by what the pass had to offer. For those not quite convinced that the pass is the best way to see Cape Town on a budget, scroll up and definitely watch the video of me living my best life for 48 hours with the Unlimited CityPass. Heh
On a deeper level, the pass also made me finally experience a Township tour where I got to see the lives of many indigenous South Africans living in slum like neighborhoods…just a few miles from the resplendent Cape Town inhabited mostly by white South Africans and expats. It was jarring and it gave me a lot more understanding and a different perspective on the whys behind many of the xenophobic actions of black South Africans against other black African people.
Hurt people hurt people and sometimes lash out the wrong way at the wrong people.
Black lives should matter, in the Americas, in Africa, in Asia, in Europe…everywhere. Systemic racism has caused so much damage and a lot more needs to happen to work towards making the lives of the people deeply impacted to start mattering.
Stay safe everyone, COVID-19 is still stark reality for us all!
