My sister may not remember this, but she used to get so irritated by my playing Celtic Woman’s Suil A Ruin on repeat at night until she’d come into my room to turn it off out of annoyance. I found it soothing dammit!!
When I started planning my Ireland adventure, I knew music had to be a part of it and for a good reason. I got to know that my favorite Irish bands had gotten some contracts for music and I was so ready for their concert. The Reel Inn had a great number of reviews as THE place to enjoy proper Irish music with the locals, and that’s after excluding all that I learnt on this website. I most loved the bit where others were encouraged to make music requests, join in with the band, or simply take over. Great community.
Of course, the popularity of the inn had brought in a good number of tourists for it was quite similar to the Pantages Hollywood venue, but because it is further up north, it was not as overwhelming as you would find in a bigger city.
Luck was on my side, I grabbed a good spot right before the crowd trickled in and when it was time for the show to start, I was front and center.
Besides The Reel Inn, Donegal Town has a fair number of touristy places to visit, but I really did not want to tire myself by trying to see too much. The music was just enough for me.

Here’s a video of some of the music I was lucky enough to record. Let me warn you…I forgot my tripod at the hotel and I set my camera up in an awkward way when my arms got tired of the workout. Enjoy my efforts!
