An update to this experience has been posted here, if you want to experience Ilashe with Pop Beach Club, I advise you see the updated information and make up your mind from there.

Gosh I remember the first time I went to Ilashe private beach, the getting there was a hot mess!

I’d recently moved back to Nigeria and a friend invited me for her friend’s birthday. The lady paid a sketchy guy the fee for the boats, villa, food + drinks only to spend 5 hours waiting for the boats to pick us up. It took calling in the police and some guys from the army to get everything sorted out. Hot mess.

The whole experience after the initial fiasco was fun, but the moral of the story is, use well tried and trusted vendors for such things.

Since my first time going to Ilashe, it has become the ‘IT’ beach spot for my friends and I to go to for a half-day retreat. It is also the spot for many other folks who want to get away for the day or weekend with friends and family.

Here are a few pictures of us ‘jollificating’ at Ilashe in 2011

For those wanting to experience Ilashe; last January (2015), I discovered Pop Beach Club’s villa; a pretty sweet and colorful set up with cabanas lined around the pool area. My friends organized the boat rental, food, drinks and music, Pop Beach Club simply provided the villa via a friend’s club membership. From what I saw on their website, their services go beyond what we utilized. They offer massage sessions, kayak guided tours, horse rides, and quad bikes for an additional fee. Bookings can be done online too, but I’d suggest calling them first – Tel +234 (0) 8071 541 772 https://popbeachclub.checkfront.com/reserve/ I don’t get why they have membership quoted in dollars, they should change that.

Edit – My experience with Pop Beach Club has since changed for the negative, if you plan to use their services in the future, check this out – Ilashe Beach with Pop Beach Club

It’s your ultimate get away from the hustle that is Lagos, a short boat ride from the mainland on the beach side of river Eko. This idyllic natural setting is the back drop for you to kick back and relax with friends, take a lesson, learn something new, interact, network commune with nature, have a swim, experience new music, be blown away.

Many folks seem to think a beach day with friends and family would break the bank, so I did a little bit of digging around on the budget for those who want to have a beach party without breaking the bank 😀

A friend also mentioned that Pop beach club currently has an offer for folks to pay N10,000/person which gets you a round trip boat ride, food, and villa access…no drinks included. So for folks who want to go there solo, you can do so without crazy cost implications. Call them to confirm first ohhh!

How To Get There

I only know to get there by boat from Victoria Island or Ikoyi jetties. If there are other options, please correct me.

On a side note, Ilashe beach is a thing of beauty and as we all know, beautiful things need to be well maintained. There’s a big difference from the first time I went to Ilashe to my last weekend spent there; the beach is now lined with so much trash. A lot of money is spent by the people who go to or build villas on Ilashe beach, there needs to be a policy in place to protect our beauty.
