I travelled to South Africa a couple of times last year and thinking back on the adventure, I’m grateful for the experience of backpacking through a country that is still somewhat of a strangeland to me. I’d visited in 2016 for a wedding and I had an amazing luxurious experience back then. This time around was a lot more humble as I go on a Hop on Hop off through South Africa; from Cape Town to Johannesburg, and I’m much richer mentally for it (follow my journey and you will understand what I mean).
I hopped around the country on a hop on hop off bus, Baz Bus and took a little gamble on each city I decided to make my home for a night or more. Some experiences made me a lot more circumspect than I usually am and some made me pause and be grateful that I could afford the luxury of such an adventure.
Telling my story of this adventure has been a bit of a whirlwind journey. First it was xenophobia and Nigeria’s anger at the country’s actions towards my people, now it is covid 19 and me pushing it off because of the timing. After a lot of mental back and forth and simply saying, fuck it. I edited a short clip that took more time than you’d believe and I finally let the first part of my baby go. Enjoy!
There is a lot to this Hop on Hop off journey through South Africa beyond the beauty of what I showcase here, and I’m bit nervous about how well I can tell the story of my journey from Cape Town to Johannesburg…but here goes!

Also, for those who want to visit South Africa or are brave enough to go on a Hop on Hop off adventure through South Africa post Covid 19 lock down, make sure you have a yellow fever card…
A separate post on the visa process will definitely come up, so look out for that too, and I reckon many countries will have some tougher entry restrictions once we gain a semblance of calmness after this lock down is over.
