My last post on Ilashe incited a large number of private messages asking me for more details on the experience, so when a friend invited me on a group trip to Ilashe using the company I mentioned on my prior post, Pop Beach Club, I figured it would be a good idea to experience their full package myself.
Let me just start by apologising to anybody that has used the boat service of Pop Beach Club. Thousands of serious apologies! The level of sketchiness and terrible customer service my friends and I experienced was mind blowing. Guys, it took multiple boat changes to get us to the beach, and we arrived at the beach about 3 hours later than planned. Our 6 hour beach day was cut in half and the person managing the service squeezed us for N25,000 extra to compensate the outsourced boat that was used to finally get us to our destination. Get the Brazillian style for the beach season.
To cut the long story short, watch my short video showcasing my Ilashe experience with Pop Beach Club.

Hi Zainab, first of all thanks for the beautiful accompanying video I love the images the sound track and the overall vibe, Thank you . Now to the matter at hand Pop beach club doesn’t have a boat service it’s a third party arrangement , guests are free to source thier transportation independently . On the day in question we received a request for a days membership a day before, this request was not confirmed until the morning in question . A days membership allows 10 people to visit , they booked a speed boat charter , a speed boat seats 10 they were well aware of this we had a discussion about the party size being over 10 people and we were assured they will not be over it was explained to them the implications, if you are more than 10 you need another guest day membership and another boat this is for your own safety and comfort there is a limit to the load an engine is designed to carry . The party proceeded to offer a bribe to the boatman in charge of the hired boat to carry 12 people with the accompanying load associated, this resulted in the breakdown. We hired another boat to rescue said party .At the end of the day they refused to pay for the extra 2 people, a cost which at our best offer would have been 30k each which would have covered the cost of a second boat and prevented the problem with the overload and engine trouble. We take safety comfort and costs very seriously at pop and we work in the best interest of our members, it is pertinent they abide by our rules for their own safety ! He who seeks equity must come with clean hands ! Your party put their life’s at risk when they offered a bribe to the boatman and tried to sneak 2 extra people in without payment, it’s not the right thing to do , it’s not the pop way . Your safety was our first priority we went out on a limb and rented a boat at an hour when they are not easy to find we ensured you had a day on the beach and you got home safely inspite of your actions. At that time we were stunned by your actions and didn’t demand N100k which was our right nor a discounted N60k which was our best offer but we asked for N25k which was the amount of bribe offered to the boatman at this time we wanted to draw a line under the incident and move on . Which we have since done . We have been in operation for over 4 years close too 800 trips have been arranged providing incomes and jobs and opportunities for so many people, we are deeply rooted in the communities we serve and are a responsible partner in community life and the burgeoning local tourism industry. I thank you for highlighting this issue as a warning to other guests RULES are there for your own safety and should be observed.
