So, a few weeks could have been the typical Nigerian visits family in Alabama, United States trip where the activities involved are; sleep, eat, tv binge, and shop till my Nigerian bank decides to embarrass me at the checkout counter by denying my hard earned shopping spree.

All of the typical Nigerian styled travel happened but I decided to add a bit of spice to my Alabama family visit. First, I was lucky enough to meet Leslie from Huntsville, Alabama during the TBEX Ireland conference last year and I mentioned I might pop in for some family time this year. (Leslie is a lady that is working hard to put Huntsville on the travel trail for those that want to visit the south of USA.)

Before hopping on the plane to Birmingham, Alabama, I sent her an email letting her know of my plan to visit a town about 2 hours away from her and I received the most welcoming response from she and her team despite my usual lastminute.com!

A few quick facts about Huntsville, Alabama that I learned during my tour;

  • Home of the US Space and Rocket Center
  • Has One of the Largest Numbers of Antebellum homes in the South
  • Lowe Mill was once a cotton mill that has become the largest privately owned arts facility
  • They know how to craft some amazing beer and throw it down in the kitchen

Why on earth did I want to visit Huntsville, Alabama? FOMO…plain and simple. And I am not ashamed of it! During TBEX Ireland (a travel bloggers conference), I heard way too much about the town and how great the travel experience there was. I knew I would only have one day to explore the town, so doing most of the activities I’d heard of was out the window. What I was able to do was live out my little space fantasy by exploring a space craft. I’d hoped that I could levitate also…but beggars really can’t be choosers too eh?

We started my intro into Huntsville with some pretty good Southern food, toured the Space center, tried out more delicious food, attempted to become a pro at axe throwing. Learned a bit of history and topped of the day with some art appreciation, beer tasting and ridiculously delicious pizzas! Words are not enough, so watch my short video and let me know if you now appreciate Huntsville, Alabama as much as I and my cousin do.

    It’s great that you got to explore the place and have fun with fellow bloggers during a family visit. The photos look great, and the food seems drool inducing.
