I haven’t written a post on here for over a month. Wow.

I decided to take some time off to re-think my blogging concept. What was the point? Who am I writing for? How do I get more people to read my struggle words?

#sigh.

What was supposed to be a week away from my weekly posts became over a month sabbatical.

My flaw of overthinking became a barrier for me. I attempted to read some of my earlier posts and kept wincing through it all, shoot, I got bored watching my own videos. Not good at all.

Anyway, I went out for a jog about 40 minutes ago and allowed my mind to stray to this platform that is supposed to be a hobby for me. Why is it now becoming a chore? And so I decided, stop trying too hard.

Write whatever I feel like, within mostly the travel space, good or bad. Put down my real thoughts on my travel experiences and treat this more like what I planned it to be, my travel diary.

I’m not going to even try to do one of those “top things to do in…” so if you want that sorta thing, I don’t know if I am the best blog to read for that. I will share what I get up to, if it is worth a mention, and that’s that. Still reading? Meh…😜

Since starting this blog, I found that I really do enjoy writing. I fully realized this two weeks ago. I had to write an article for Guardian Nigeria on how social media has affected my way of travel. It took me less than an hour to type out words that took me to a happy travel space. In writing down those words, I kept thinking, why don’t I write stuff like this more often? Words that take me back to cherised travel memories instead of words that are formed in attempt to bring in more readers. Will they like what I just wrote? Will I get more comments for this? Meh. My type-A personality keeps trying to rear its head, and in this space, I will try not to allow it. Instead, I will try as much as possible to make this space my escape hub.

Ok, time to snooze. Got a company to run tomorrow 😉

Sometimes we all get writers block or the feeling, what the hell are we doing this for? But with social media as well, we kinda now know that our blogs are being viewed which usually spurs us on as well. 🙂

  2. I think it’s worth stopping to think about what you want out of your blog. I’ve been writing mine for coming up to 8 years, it started out as a food blog but morphed into a food and travel one some years ago. I cover a pretty wide range of topics. and when I write about some topics I really love to delve into the history of a place or maybe the details of how an ingredient is made. I’ve been told many times that I could get more readers by narrowing my niche significantly (the food side covers recipes, restaurant reviews, cookery books and classes, food festivals…) and if I write the kind of listicles that are popular these days. But the thing is I write my blog for my own pleasure, and even while I’ll happily do a few occasional commissioned posts, I only do ones that appeal to me as enjoyable to create. But it’s not my job, and I refuse to let it become a chore, or to suck the joy out of it by conforming to all the many instruction sets for success in the blogosphere. And it works for me, I still love writing, even if my slice of the “market” is insignificant compared to those who play the game and work at it full time. So stick to your instincts and enjoy!

It’s good to get into the habit of writing regularly. To get rid of writer’s block, I usually just write anything (even if I don’t think I’ll ever publish it). Once you get the creativity flowing it gets easier. Keep on writing and keep on travelling!

Pretty sure that writers block happens to everyone at some point. nature of the beast I suppose! Good news is that you worked passed it and here you are!

  5. Good for you that you have decided to write about what you feel like. You’re on nobody’s schedule but your own and you don’t have to write top 10 posts if you don’t want! Writ about what makes you happy 🙂

You should definitely write what works for you and not let the blog dictate your life. But since you enjoy writing, it would be a shame to stop doing it. You could look into writing for local magazines or the travel section of your local newspaper…or even a newsletter for your community.

Sometimes it is good to take time off and decide what makes you happier and what works for you. I believe that what expresses you the most is the best for ypur blog as well.

  8. I agree with you. Travelling and writing about it should be fun. I don’t write top things to do more often, I also like to write about my personal expreince. I am glad that you find the way that works for you.

  9. It’s always good to have re-think and focus what you want to accomplish with the blog. After all blogs are all about your personal experiences and thoughts and not everyone elses!
