At the beginning of 2020, the already difficult US visa path for Nigerians became a near impossible situation as there was US visa ban on Nigeria. Every month brought a new impediment to travel and when Covid-19 hit USA, Nigeria had a bit of respite from the monthly add-ons to our list of nos. Many Nigerians were fervently praying for a new president that did not have Nigeria on his/her shit list and who will lift the US visa ban on Nigeria.
Our prayers were answered and President Joe Biden reverted a major travel embargo placed on Nigerian travelers. The executive order can be read here
The ban was initiated in 2017 and it focused on a lot of Muslim countries, Nigeria was added on before Covid-19 became the bigger focus for America, here’s my article/video on it.
Now I hope they will also re-introduce the efficient drop box system that allowed many Nigerians that already had security clearance to skip having to go through the same preliminary process every time they need their visas renewed.
