I am in Santorini…pinch me! Truth: I pushed the thought of visiting Greece for years because I mentally saved it as a romantic country to visit with a loved one. I first played with the idea of island hopping around Greece in 2010. I looked at so many pictures of Greece, and most of it looked like it needed a lover as a travel partner to fully enjoy it. I put it on a side burner for a couple of years.
Revisited the idea of Greece as a place to visit with some girlfriends for a bachelorette trip. The logistics of it was too far fetched, and so it got pushed aside again.
8 years after the initial thoughts of visiting Greece, here I am. Not here the way I envisioned, but here. Happy, feeling quite lucky, and a bit grateful that I am able to experience Santorini with an amazing group of people that I call friends. From new to old, friends.
From the airport to our beautiful villa, Santorini welcomes every one of us. The rolling hills, to the windy turns with the view of the Aegean sea on both sides of our path that keeps reminding us that we are no longer home.
As soon as we walk into our villa, take in our new home for the week, we sigh in a very loud grateful note. We really are in Santorini. The sea is not quite as close as we hoped, but we can see it beyond the vineyard of our villa while perched in our elevated jacuzzi. There are eight of us, two rental cars (which we got after consulting this awesome article), and not much else planned for the week but a full day of cruising around Santorini on our private boat. The week is ours and the ocean calls to us. For tonight, we’ll spend it in our jacuzzi while sipping on a chilled glass of Prosecco. Later, we’ll figure out what to do tomorrow.
