Getting to Kagoshima was serious long story. ANA canceled the flight for unknown reasons, so I lost 1 day of exploring the city and it’s food culture.
ANA put me up in a capsule hotel in Ishigaki for the night, but I was too knackered to even take a picture of it. Not something I’d want to experience again.
I initially planned for 2 days, so I had only a short time to explore Kagoshima. Luckily, there really wasn’t much to do but eat ‘ok’ food and window shop (I got a cute bag from a thrift store :-)). The main attraction there is Sakurajima, an active volcano that can be accessed by a ferry from Kagoshima’s port, 160 yen each way.

Getting money exchanged was a hassle in Kagoshima. All the banks close at 3pm and a select few atms work with international bank cards. I walked around the city center for over 2 hours trying to get some Yen until someone directed me to 7 Eleven, their atm accepted my GTB mastercard. Thank God. The hunger that was striking my body at that point was not funny oh, Japanese is big on cash transactions and not so much on card transactions. Any who, checkout the pictures below for a bit of Kagoshima
